Uriel Malul, general manager of Amouta Ichlu Re'im has recently been questioned by the Tax Authority in Jerusalem on suspicion that he may have committed offences under the Land Tax Law and Income Tax Ordinance when purchasing a flat for his own use. During preliminary investigation, he is reported to have admitted withdrawing substantial funds from the Amouta, transferring the money to the seller of the flat.
The Magistrates' Court Judge in Jerusalem, Judge Eitan Kornhauser gave instructions
that he be released on bond, pending further investigation.
Amouta Ichlu Re'im was established in 2003 and its income is derived from donations,
mainly from donors overseas, from UK Friends of Ichlu Re'im. The Amouta operates
a modern kitchen and dining room, serving hot meals on weekdays and distributing
packaged grocery items to the needy; the facilities are available for life stage
celebrations provided at cost or less to poor individuals or families.
UK Friends of Ichlu Re'im will not send further funds to support Ichlu Re'im until
completion of all investigations; no further donations will be accepted by UK Friends
of Ichlu Re'im and no further fundraising will take place in the near future.
